Title: A bunch of 1969 cars.
Post by: Dave76 on 07/26/16, 05:07 PM
I wanted to fill in some of the holes in my 1969 carset, so I've been painting away. I've done about 14 so far. If anybody is interested in them, then I just need someone to render them, so that I can upload them.

Hey Dave, if you want to upload an 800x600 screenshot (crop it in photoshop or whatever) you can do that for now if you like. So you can at least share your work.

Unless Joe wants to render them for you.

Post by: Dave76 on 07/29/16, 02:31 PM
Ok, cool. I guess I'll do that. I never heard back on those renders. I still have to do the pit crews, so when I get those done, I'll post them like that, with screenshots.

Post by: jopajoe on 07/29/16, 02:40 PM
I have not seen any request for any renders in a long time
Title: Re: A bunch of 1969 cars.
Post by: Dave76 on 07/31/16, 12:05 AM
I'm not sure if I emailed you or someone else. Its tough for me to remember the username which goes with which real name and email. If you can do some renders for me, then message me with your email address so I'll be sure I have it right. I'd appreciate it.

I went ahead and uploaded my Petty cars with screenshots.  I guess I'll do one driver or paint scheme a day, rather than a big pack of them all at once. People probably wouldn't see them all that way. I hope people like them.

Well I personally try not to Post more then 2 files at a time not to bump other work off the front page I normally allow for someone to have their file on the front page for atleast 1 day.As far as render go you request them in the forum here

Thanks RacerRon! I'm glad you like them. I hope you like the ones I just posted too.

I just posted 3 cars. Neil Castles, Wendell Scott, and Dick Brooks. I think they were good looking paint schemes. So I hope I captured them well. I'm so used to posting 3 at a time that it has just become a magic number for me.

I barely got any downloads on those cars. A lot of views views though. Is there something wrong with them? Some reason why people don't like them? Any constructive criticism? Or is it that not so many people run the GN69ST mod anymore? I also notice that my "coolness" went to zero from one. Man, tough crowd! Were they that bad?  :17:  :021:

Post by: Dave76 on 08/03/16, 12:53 PM
Thanks ongias! I just added 3 more cars. They are historically accurate, and you won't find them anywhere else. The next year, these guys were running completely different cars. Frank Warren was in a Roadrunner, Cecil Gordon was in the #24, and Sonny Hutchins was in a Mercury. I haven't seen anyone else paint a Ford Fairlane for GN69ST. I hope you like them. I have even cooler stuff coming.

Dave, keep in mind this is a 13 year old game, with a mod that was made many years after the game was no longer available. I'm surprised its lasted this long.

So I would personally feel proud if I had 21 downloads for 1 car in a weeks time. Especially for an older mod that probably doesn't get much use anymore. And 6 cars that weren't 'main stream' from the era.

You work looks great... Just remember there's only a hand full of us left that still mess with this sim.
Title: Re: A bunch of 1969 cars.
Post by: Dave76 on 08/09/16, 11:24 AM
Yeah, you're right about that Robert. It just threw me off when I saw that some of them had 80 views, but only 3-5 downloads. Thanks for the compliment!

I just posted 3 more cars. Two of Leeroy Yarborough's cars, a Mercury Cyclone, and a Torino Talladega. Also Don Tarr's Chevelle.

I feel like these cars I've been doing are a great add-on for people's 1969 carset. That's what I intended anyway. The 1970 carset got almost all of the attention. I want to give everyone some specifically 1969 cars, because many people don't know which cars belong in their set.

If any of you want me to do a certain 1969 car, then let me know.
Title: Re: A bunch of 1969 cars.
Post by: Robert Vining on 08/09/16, 12:08 PM
Nice work again Dave!

As for the 80 views, you should also remember that includes page views of the home page that shows that image. The software used for downloads is actually a gallery add-on for the forum, so it counts how many times an image is shown. So in this case, the render of each of the last 4 cars are loaded every time someone visits the home page, which runs your view count up.

Thanks for the compliment!

I can send you a complete 1969 carset right now. It wouldn't have many of the backrunners, one-off schemes, or cars still running from '67, or '68 though.

Just get the 1970 Pearson, Langley, Isaac, Jabe Thomas, Trivette, Arnold, Yarbrough, Yarborogh, Allison, Baker, Donnie Allison, and a few others, and you have a good start on a 1969 set.

I'll fill in some of the other cars. ;)

Keep up the great work, Dave76.  The cars are awesome, bud!  You also have to keep in mind that there are far few of us "gray-hair/no hair" types who remember the 1969 era of racing.  Don't be discouraged... the word will get out about what you doing here.

By the way... how does one go about giving you a "coolness" point.  I'd like to give you several of them!   :)

Very interesting.  I wonder if it is because I'm still on XP?  (Which is about to change as I've got a brand new rig built with Win10 that I'm about to switch over to.)

Anyway, thanks for the help, Joe and for adding the cool point.   :13:

I'm really glad you guys are enjoying the cars. I have a couple of different cars I'm working on, and a bunch of cars I want to do.

The one problem is that a bunch of the cars are the same as 1970, so that if I do a full set, I have to repaint a bunch that everyone has, and already look good. The 17, 76, 8, 10, etc. I am almost finished with a spreadsheet with a list of all the cars done, and the links to them. That's not as good as a single download though. Maybe I can convince another painter to download their cars to the set?

I finally got some free time to paint, so I just released three more cars. None of them use the official templates. We've got two 1968 Ford Galaxies, and a 1967 Plymouth Belvedere. One of the reasons why it takes me a while to post another batch of cars, is that I have to spend a lot of time hunting down old photos of these cars. I have quite a 1969 Nascar photo collection now!

I just posted some heavy hitters- Donnie Allison, and Bobby Isaac. I know you'll think "Dave screwed up on Bobby Isaac's numbers. They were thinner, and sharper than that." Well, not in '69! I paid close attention, to try to make these two as accurate as possible, since everyone knows these schemes. These two are a little different than what everyone else has painted. Everyone always painted the 27 Sunny King. So I did two of his other schemes. What do you think? I hope you like them.

Thanks Highbank! Yeah, I do try to get them as accurate as possible. For example, I always use the exact contingencies that are in the picture of the car. Unfortunately, it's not easy to find good pics of a lot of these cars. The #08 car I just did was like that, so I just did the best I could, and used a little creative license on the parts I couldn't see (at least not well).

So here are my latest three: #1- A.J. Foyt, #30 - Dave Marcis, and #08- E.J. Trivette.

I hope you guys like them!

Nice lookin' stuff man...I used to do a lot of those '69-'70 rigs but anymore not so much! Only thing I can see is that the 08 car numbers should be leaned/skewed  to the left a few degrees and that's just an eye kinda thing. I can't wait 'til my eye health comes back around a little more maybe I'll go on a binge or something but right now just still ain't right enough to see the proper layouts anymore!

Don't worry about it Jopajoe. I'm going to download that one for myself. You did a great job on it! If the mood strikes you, then paint a '69 car or two. You can have first dibs on Pete Hazelwood, since I can't even find a pic of his car (#12 Fairlane I believe ). Seriously though, I could use some help knocking these out. Think about it. ;)

The cars are 1969 or older. You haven't seen it when a Charger's grille is covered by something, except for the headlight covers?

It looks like this:

I posted a couple of Dodges today. I FINALLY got a few free minutes to finish them up. I changed the grille one more time. This time, I just took the Charger 500 template, and modified it to how I like. What do you guys think? Do they look good to you?

BTW- I really wanted to use my first version of the #36 car. It wasn't as accurate,  but it looks so much cooler!

I just uploaded John Sears' #4 Torino, and the nearly identical #14 of Leeroy Yarbrough. Take a look, and compare to the original. Then let me know what you think.

I made the 66 Charger template  posted over at nnracing back in 2005

You're the one who made that? Well thanks, it certainly made it easier. I downloaded it from Delta Sim Racing. Unfortunately, it was a template for version 2.5, so I had to do my best to convert it to 3.0. Have you already done that? If so, then I could certainly use it.

What is the 2.5 versus 3.0 ?

Version 2.5 was the last GN70 mod with all the body types represented. With 3.0, you have the separate short track (GN69ST), and superspeedway (GN70SS) mods. So the old templates don't work with it, because the bodies are more accurate.

Jopajoe, now that I know that you made the template, I have given credit to you on the download page. Is that cool? There is another car I want to do on that template, so I of course would credit you on the download page again if I did it. Does that work?

What happened to the GN70SS downloads? It looks like they disappeared. I just did two cars that I was going to upload, but I don't see where to upload them to. Am I just that tired that I'm not seeing it?

Sorry about the 70 SS thing Dave... somehow the carset painter group you are in had the 'read' access unchecked. It was clearly a mistake at some point. Probably by me.

Sorry about that. You should be able to upload 70SS now. Let me know if you ever run into that again.

I just uploaded three more cars - all #57 '67 Dodges. One of them was supposed to have Johnny Halford and Bobby Mausgrover, but the zip with both cars was too big to upload. Oh well. Just copy your Halfor car, and rename it Mausgrover. The only difference is the name on the door.

I edited my 57 cars this morning, because I forgot to credit Jopajoe for the 1966-67 Dodge Charger template. So that's there now. Sorry I forgot to do that yesterday, I was in a hurry, and was annoyed that I suddenly can't upload two cars in the same zip anymore.

Oh, while I'm at it, I might as well post the reference pics for my last cars. Here's the 04 Oldsmobile of Ken Meisenhelder:

The 39 car of Friday Hassler. Notice that I put the black writing on it? And I put the dwarf next to the house, where he's supposed to be. The car I had in my set was dwarfless. And I don't think I've ever seen anyone do the '69 version with the black writing. So I think mine was the first!  :)

I was just thinking, I have about 100 1969 cars/ schemes done. Some of the remaining ones are already available out there. If by chance I am not able to finish this set. You can get some of the others in the following places:

I don't want to clog up this thread like that, but you can go to Rubbins Racin's forum, and find lots of reference pics. I have been loading it up with 1969 pics when I've had a free minute here and there. It is a great resource! The 76 car is the second version I've done. The first didn't have the red in the numbers. I also updated it in a few ways to make it look better, and be more authentic. Take a look:
